Sarah Munro is an artist, costume designer/maker and performer.

She has had a lifelong love of clothes and fabrics and remembers the first item she made for herself at 12 – a pair of pink gingham hipster flared trousers with a black patent belt!

A late developer or busy doing other things, she went to Norwich School of Art in the early 90’s and studied sculpture then went on to train as a teacher, working as Arts Coordinator at a Pupil Referral Unit teaching art and other arts related subjects to teenagers with emotional difficulties.

With her husband, artist Mark Copeland, she embarked on a new career, creating The Insect Circus Museum in 2004 and The Insect Circus Show in 2006, both of which have toured to theatres and festivals all over the UK and Europe.

She designs and makes the costumes and does anything else that is needed from admin to set painting to directing and more……….

They are currently working on more projects together.

Sarah has designed and made costumes for 1927 productions – ‘The Animals and Children took to the Streets’ 2010, ‘Golem’ 2015, and ‘Roots’ 2019 and is eagerly anticipating the start of the next production.

She has worked with performance artist Marisa Carnesky, creating costumes and props for several productions including ‘The Shmatteh Bride’ 2006, ‘Magic War’ 2007, ‘The Ghost Train’ 2009, and ‘Showwoman, Ritual, Action’ 2019.

She has designed and made costumes for various theatre and circus productions, including Doppel Danger, She Goat and 250 Years of Circus in 60 Minutes, Gossamer Threads Circus.

Sarah and Mark have worked with Professor Vanessa Toulmin, Director of City and Culture at the University of Sheffield, and founder of The National Fairground Archive, on various events and projects including Professor Vanessa’s Performing Wonders at Circusfest, Roundhouse, London 2012, and Showzam Festival, Blackpool, 2008 – 2012 and Marvelosa exhibition in 2015.

They have worked with Sideshow Illusions Company creating sideshows and costumes for Showzam and Butlins between 2008 and 2015.

And they have worked lots with Out There Arts in Great Yarmouth on various projects and several festivals.
